On the latest episode of NXT, #DiY (Johnny Gargano and Tomasso Ciampa) faced The Authors of Pain in the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Semi-Finals. #DiY had their opponents beat until their manager Paul Ellering distracted the referee.
This then prompted The Revival to surface from underneath the ring to take out Johnny Gargano and allowed the Authors Of Pain to take advantage and secure their place in the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic semi-finals.
After the match, a backstage clip aired of NXT General Manager William Regal announcing that at NXT Takeover: Toronto, #DiY will be facing The Revival in a 2-out-of-3 falls match for the NXT Tag Team Championship.

#DiY and The Revival were supposed to face off in the second round of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic, but The Revival forfeited due to Scott Dawson having a “knee injury”, which was in the storyline. However, The Revival cost their rivals a spot at the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic finals.
The two rival teams have faced off twice before. Once on an episode of NXT where #DiY won, and the second at NXT Takeover: Brooklyn, which many considered to be among the top matches this year in WWE.
#DiY have one more shot at the Tag Team gold. Whoever wins the 2-out-of-3 falls match will likely have to face the winners of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic, as they will have a righteous claim to a Tag Team Championship match.
Last year, Samoa Joe and Finn Balor won the tournament, and Joe requested an NXT championship shot at Finn Balor, the NXT Champion at the time. Though Balor had accepted, William Regal made Joe jump through several hoops, which was what began Joe’s heel turn and sparked a rivalry between Balor and Joe for the next 7 months.

The latest episode of NXT also featured TM-61 narrowly defeat the up-and-coming SAniTY against the odds to secure their place in the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic finals. How they will overcome The Authors Of Pain is something we’ll have to wait and see in Toronto.
