What's the story?
NXT Superstar Io Shirai turned heel recently, after her brutal encounter with Shayna Baszler inside a steel cage.
Shirai is now sporting a new, menacing look, and WWE NXT's official Twitter account has posted the same.
In case you didn't know...
Last month, an NXT taping in the Full Sail Arena saw Shayna Baszler take on Io Shirai inside a steel cage for the NXT Women's title. Interestingly, Baszler sported MMA gloves for the match.
At one point during the match, Jessamyn Duke and Marina Shafir came down and began arguing with the official in front of the cage door, prompting Shirai to kick the door with all her strength and even up the playing field again.
Soon after, Shirai's friend Candice LeRae came out for the save, but the closing moments for the match saw Baszler picking up the win after being the first competitor to escape the cage.
After the match, Shirai turned on LeRae and proceeded to unleash a beatdown on her.

The heart of the matter
Io Shirai addressed the fans on a recent edition of NXT, stating that she doesn't need any of them. Now, WWE NXT's official handle has posted a bunch of photos featuring Io Shirai sporting her new, menacing look. The new look certainly gels well with her ruthless attitude, a far cry from what she used to be in the past. You can check out the photos below.
What's next?
Shirai's heel turn has opened the doors for a string of interesting angles going forward. Her shocking attack on former best friend Candice LeRae is bound to eventually culminate in a big match somewhere down the line.
