What's the story?

Shawn Lealos of AXS.com announced that the WarGames will return to NXT Takeover this November. NXT Takeover: WarGames II will take place from the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California on November 17th.

In case you didn't know...

WarGames was the creation of "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes in 1987. The standard format consisted of two teams of four or five wrestlers competing in two rings side-by-side surrounded by a steel cage. Once all men were in the cage, "The Match Beyond" would begin where both teams would brawl until a member of one team submitted, surrendered, or was knocked unconscious.

The heart of the matter

The format of WarGames for NXT was slightly different as there were three teams of three competing, there was no roof on the cage, and pinfalls were allowed.

The Authors of Pain teamed up with Roderick Strong to take on The Undisputed Era and SAnitY in the first WarGames match in 17 years. The Undisputed Era of Adam Cole, Kyle O'Reilly, and Bobby Fish would come out victorious in the return to WarGames in what was considered a great match.

NXT Takeover: WarGames II will kick off four straight nights for the WWE at the Staples Center; which will also include Survivor Series, as well as the subsequent episodes of Monday Night Raw and SmackDown Live after.

What's next?

The next Takeover event for NXT will be in New Orleans the night before WrestleMania on April 7th. The currently rumored matches include Andrade Cien Almas v. Aleister Black for the NXT Championship, Ember Moon v. Shayna Baszler for the NXT Women's Championship, and The Undisputed Era taking on the winner of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic.

Author's take

This is very exciting news because I loved the WarGames match from Takeover last year. Even though there wasn't a roof on the cage, I got over that fact quickly after what Adam Cole did off the top.

Dusty Rhodes meant a lot to those he mentored in NXT, and the fact that his legacy lives on with the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic and WarGames are just some of the reasons why I and so many others love NXT.
