What’s the story?

In a recent advertising video posted by the Nationwide Arena, it apparently seems like the main event for this year’s Fastlane pay-per-view has now been leaked and confirmed. You can check out the advertising video below:

In case you didn’t know…

The Fastlane PPV is the last event that is scheduled to take place on 11th March and this year the pay-per-view is going to be a Smackdown Live exclusive show, this will also be the final stop on the Road to Wrestlemania for this year.

A few weeks prior, a graphic was also posted by the Nationwide Arena that originally started the rumor of a fatal five-way main event at the Fastlane pay-per-view.

The heart of the matter

After releasing the advertisement for the Fastlane pay-per-view last month, the Nationwide Arena has now gone on to confirm the main event of the show, this time in a video which was posted on their official Facebook page.

Following the release of the video, it has been confirmed that current WWE Champion AJ Styles will indeed defend the WWE Title in a fatal five-way match that will also feature four top superstars from Smackdown Live, in the form of Kevin Owens, Shinsuke Nakamura, Sami Zayn and Randy Orton. However, it was also noted by the Nationwide Arena that the card is subject to change in the future.

The advert has apparently confirmed that AJ Styles will walk into Columbus, Ohio as the reigning WWE Champ, meaning that The Phenomenal One is likely to successfully retain his WWE Title at this year’s Royal Rumble pay-per-view where Styles will face the duo of Owens and Zayn in a 2-on-1 handicap match. On the other hand, the inclusion of Nakamura and Orton into the five-way match means that neither men could be winning the 30 men Royal Rumble match this year.

What’s next?

As of right now, the next goal for all these superstars will be to keep their focus on the upcoming Royal Rumble pay-per-view which takes place at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia. Meanwhile, it has been theorized that the winner of this year’s Royal Rumble match could challenge for the WWE Championship at Wrestlemania, meaning that there could be potential bout at Wrestlemania 34 between the winner of the Royal Rumble match and the winner of the Fastlane main event. The Fastlane PPV will take place on 11th March 2018.

Author’s take

The fatal five-way match that is being currently advertised as the Fastlane main event is without a doubt a Wrestlemania calibre main event. Regardless of whoever comes out on top in this match, one thing is for sure that the fans will be on the winning side at the end of this pay-per-view.
