What's the story?

Rey Mysterio spoke to WrestleZone in a new interview and spoke about a variety of interesting topics. The former WWE United States Champion was asked about his legacy and whether he will be passing on his legendary mask to his son Domnic after retirement.

Mysterio confirmed that he does in fact, intend to pass on his mask and legacy to Dominic once he retires and his son is old enough.

In case you didn't know...

Dominic is still around 21 to 22 years old. He began training to become a pro wrestler and Rey Mysterio has kept no secret about it. As you probably know, the mask of Rey Mysterio is the most important thing about his legacy.

It was passed on from his uncle to him. The only period of time when he was unmasked was briefly in WCW, a decision that he was dead set against.

WWE, thankfully, were wise enough to realize the marketability of Mysterio's mask and during his peak with the company, his mask was one of the highest-selling merchandise items, especially among kids.

The heart of the matter

In a great interview with WrestleZone, Mysterio was asked about passing on his mask and legacy to Dominic. Mysterio affirmed that he does intend to do so, having scratched and clawed to even earn the "Mysterio" name.

"Most definitely. It cost me a lot of work and sacrifice to gain the respect of my uncle in order for him to pass on the legacy of the ‘Mysterio’ name onto me. I can’t even count how many times as a kid that I would cry, I was bleeding, I was injured, but I still worked through all of that to get back in the ring and do what I’m doing now. It cost a price to be who I am, and to be able to see my son grow up in a different style, but to see him grow outside of a professional ring and during his training stages, I see that it’s in the bloodline. For me to be able to share the ring and to have a match with him at my side, and just seeing his performance—not in the front row, but in the corner, standing next to him, waiting for him to tag me in—it’s something that once he told me he wanted to break into this business, I’ve imagined that moment ever since.”

Dominic has been making occasional on-screen appearances on RAW when Mysterio was regular.

What's next?

Rey Mysterio is still out with an injury. He's expected to return sometime in July itself.
