What's the story?

Wrestling Inc. is reporting on a recent interview that two-time WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair had with the United Kingdom's Starsport. The major topic of the interview was Ric's daughter and the current WWE SmackDown Women's Champion, Charlotte Flair.

In case you didn't know...

Charlotte Flair is already well on her way to match her father's title reigns as in her four and a half years in the business she's held the NXT Women's Championship once, the WWE Diva's Championship once, the WWE Raw Women's Championship four times, and her current reign as WWE SmackDown Women's Champion is her first with the title.

The heart of the matter...

When it comes to where Charlotte ranks among the women in professional wrestling, Ric believes that she is the greatest "by far." He doesn't know who he can compare her to.

He does admit that he's biased being her father, but he's also more than qualified to make the assessment as he's been in professional wrestling since 1972. Flair would pose the hypothetical situation of being the father of another women's wrestler, take a look at what he said below:

"Let's say she's not my daughter and I was the father of another girl I would say to the other girl you better push if you want to be like her."

Ric says that Charlotte's size and athletic ability separates her from any women in wrestling today. He said that while there are a lot of women wrestling today who are good, "there is a fine line between good and great."

Regarding the current character for Charlotte, Ric believes the WWE should turn Charlotte heel again. He would expand on that thought below:

"I wish they would use her on the other side," Flair commented. "I like her when she's bad. She's really good at enhancing other people's work. As a heel she's really good at that, that's art in itself."

What's next?

After Charlotte Flair defended her WWE Championship against Natalya in a Lumberjack Match at Clash of Champions last Sunday, it is unknown who the next contender for her WWE SmackDown Women's Championship will be. There could be more clarity on this week's edition of SmackDown Live.

Author's take...

When it is all said and done, Ric may very well be correct with Charlotte Flair being the best women's wrestler of all-time. As we approach 2018, it is still a little too early in her career to give her that title yet, but there is no doubt she is special.

I can understand Ric wanting the WWE to turn Charlotte heel, it was what he was most of his career. I don't think now is the right time for that as people are still sympathetic towards the Flair family after Ric's health scare, and it humanized Charlotte; which is why the WWE Universe absolutely loves her right now as a babyface.
