#4 Freddie Prinze Jr. on why WWE pushed John Cena instead of Triple H
Former WWE writer Freddie Prinze Jr. recently spoke about John Cena, Triple H and the plans for who was initially supposed to be the face of the company. He revealed that Triple H was the original choice to be the top guy in the 2000s. However, The Game was not interested in diluting his persona and wanted to remain a part of DX. This was the reason that the company decided to go with John Cena as the face of the company instead.
"Triple H could have worn that crown but Triple H didn't want to do segments in the first hour of RAW when it was still family friendly.'' said Prinze Jr. ''He wanted to be in the last hour of SmackDown or RAW and do his DX, adult stuff - the stuff that got him over, the stuff that he always did once he found the right character.''
He also said that Vince McMahon was more than willing to give Triple H the 'crown'. However, the former champion did not want that role in the company.
