What's the story?

A report on Twitter has stated that Sami Zayn was booed by the crowd at last night's SmackDown Live house show in Lansing before Kevin Owens came out to help his best friend and mortal enemy defeat Mike Kanellis. Owens cut a promo following the match.

In case you didn't know...

Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens are currently the talk of the WWE Universe. Owens defeated Shane McMahon at Sunday night's Hell in a Cell pay-per-view, but the chances are that KO would have been defeated and seriously injured by Shane-O Mac if it wasn't for the timely intervention of Zayn.

Sami showed up out of nowhere to pull Owens out of harm's way, leaving McMahon to crash through a table and give Owens the win. Whilst no one is entirely sure if this is a 100% heel turn for the former El Generico, the live event audience in Lansing last night certainly felt it was.

The heart of the matter

Sami Zayn was taking on Mike Kanellis at last night's WWE Live Event in Lansing, Michigan. Twitter user Andrew Roth (@RothTheReporter) tweeted that the crowd booed Sami, telling The Underdog from the Underground that he 'sold out'. This led to Kevin Owens coming out and helping Zayn pick up the win over the beleaguered Kanellis.

Further video footage has surfaced from the event, however. Reddit user Starczamora stated that Owens came out to congratulate Kanellis on his wife Maria's pregnancy, which distracted the former Mike Bennett long enough for Zayn to hit the Helluva Kick for the 1-2-3.

Owens cut a promo after the match, talking about his big win at Hell in a Cell, but Zayn did not stick around to hear it. Sami left the ring on his own following his win, giving his lifelong friend and eternal foe the spotlight once again.

What's next?

All eyes now turn to tonight's episode of SmackDown Live. How will Sami Zayn justify his actions? Will he finalise his heel turn, or pull himself back from the edge of insanity and come to his senses? Shane McMahon is almost guaranteed to be absent, so what role will Kevin Owens play in all of this?

Tonight's episode of SmackDown Live is arguably the most anticipated in months.

Author's take

Whilst this does keep the pot stirring, part of me believes that the live event angle happened for that reason and that reason only. WWE would have wanted to get Owens on the show somehow, and him indirectly helping Zayn win before cutting a promo was a clever idea.

What happens tonight is what truly matters.
