What’s the story?

Sami Zayn has taken to social media so as to brag about his victory over AJ Styles.

Zayn gloated about having pinned the WWE Champion in his very first match this year—

In case you didn’t know…

On last week’s episode of SmackDown Live, Kevin Owens faced AJ Styles in a non-title matchup, with the former beating Styles.

Following which, on this week’s edition of SmackDown Live, KO’s friend Sami Zayn competed against AJ Styles—similarly, in a non-title match—and pinned the latter.

The heart of the matter

Within a span of two weeks, Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn scored pinfall victories over WWE Champion AJ Styles—something that the WWE Universe has been abuzz about.

While Owens’ reaction saw him taking a shot at SmackDown Live Commissioner Shane McMahon and praising the blue brand’s General Manager Daniel Bryan; Zayn didn’t seem all too worried about either McMahon or Bryan.

Instead, Zayn simply stated how he pinned the WWE Champion in his first match of 2018; emphasizing that 2018 is going to be the ‘Year Of Sami’.

What’s next?

WWE Champion AJ Styles is set to defend his title against both Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn, in a ‘Handicap Match’.

The unique showdown is scheduled for the Royal Rumble PPV which will take place at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on January 28th.

Author’s take

To say that Sami Zayn had a bad 2017; would be a severe understatement. Zayn was relegated to the status of a mid-card jobber and seldom got the opportunity to showcase his talents on SmackDown Live, which ironically enough, is considered to be the land of opportunity.

Regardless, both Zayn and his best friend Kevin Owens seem to have ended 2017 and commenced their journey in 2018 on the right note. Here’s hoping the ‘Yep!’ Movement continues to succeed on SmackDown.
