What's the story?

In a fascinating episode of Talk is Jericho featuring Sami Zayn and former WWE United States Champion Kevin Owens, the duo enthralled the audience on a variety of topics, from their long-lasting friendship, to road stories and more.

One very interesting tidbit from the podcast was Zayn's opinion of what Vince McMahon thinks of him and if he believes that the WWE Chairman thinks he is championship material.

In case you didn't know...

Sami Zayn was signed up with the WWE in 2013 and during his spell at NXT, he won the NXT Championship.

Zayn made his main roster debut in 2016 on RAW and feuded with Braun Strowman, Seth Rollins and Rusev, before being traded to SmackDown in the 2017 Superstar Shakeup. Owens and Zayn once again feuded but the latter sided with Owens after he 'saved' him at Hell in a Cell.

The heart of the matter

Zayn, who has never held a championship since his main roster switch, revealed that he wasn't sure if Vince McMahon would tell him if he's in line for a shot at a championship or winning a title.

"The Underdog from the Underground" said, "I don't know how Vince views me in that regard because I don't think he would tell me where I would go in his office and ask him to give it to me straight whether I would ever become a world champion. I know he would never say that, so there's no way of me really knowing, but imagine if he told me that." (H/T to WrestlingINC for the transcription)

Zayn also narrated a hilarious instance of him meeting the Chairman of the WWE and wishing him on his birthday, but was dismissed with a grunt and an "eh" from McMahon, while the WWE Chairman hugged and thanked Chris Jericho, who was beside Zayn, when Y2J wished McMahon.

What's next?

Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens (or 'Kami' as AJ Styles calls them) are set to take on Styles for the WWE Championship at Royal Rumble, and will seek to make history by becoming the first co-WWE Champions.

Author's take

I think that it's time Sami Zayn had a championship belt on the main roster -- perhaps the US Championship. What would be doubly good is if Zayn and Owens held championship belts on SmackDown and be funny and mouthy heels, who talk trash about every Superstar in the locker room.
