WWE News: Seth Rollins 'caught Vince McMahon on a good day' in order to get curb stomp reinstated

The move was synonymous with the Kingslayer until it was banned.

What's the story?

When WWE was trying to cut down on recent moves used by superstars that may have been seen as related to concussions, Seth Rollins' Curb Stomp was one of the first to be banned.

It came back and 'the Kingslayer' has used it once again, but Rollins revealed during an interview with 'The Wrap' that he 'had to catch Vince McMahon on a good day' in order to get it reinstated. Fightful.com carried the story via 'The Wrap'.

In case you missed it . . .

During his initial singles' run after breaking with the Shield, Rollins signature finishing move was the Curb Stomp as it signified his cutthroat and opportunistic nature of turning to the dark side with the Authority.

He had to switch to using other moves, including a ripcord knee as a finisher instead once WWE banned the move a year or two back. Luckily for Rollins, he has been allowed to use the move once again.

The heart of the matter

One of the most iconic moments in WrestleMania history is Rollins cashing in his Money in the Bank briefcase at WrestleMania 31.

He curb stomped former Shield mate Roman Reigns after cashing in the briefcase in order to close out WrestleMania 31 as the WWE Champion.

But due to the severity of concussions and the abundance of research that has emerged about them over the last few years, WWE opted to ban the move since it was literally stomping a superstar's head into the ring mat.

Even though it was replaced with a move that was almost as dangerous to the head in a knee, Rollins said he was adamant about trying to get it reinstated by the WWE.

“It was a conversation that I had to have with [Vince McMahon]. It was something where he had his reasons for why he wanted to get rid of it at the time,” Rollins said.

'The Chairman' always has the final say on everything that happens or changes in WWE, so it was obviously a process towards getting it back into his quiver of moves.

“That was a fine and dandy, but I was having trouble getting a finisher that I was happy with and he was happy with. The Pedigree worked for a little bit, and the Ripcord Knee worked OK. But at the end of the day, the Stomp was what I was synonymous with, it’s what I won the title with, it was part of who I was." Seth explained.

After some time had passed, 'the Architect' explained that he returned to trying to get the move reinstated.

"When it came down to it, I just went and asked him a few years later. I said, ‘Hey look, I want to do this. Give me reasons not to and I will tell you why you’re wrong and hopefully, we can meet in the middle,'” Rollins recalled. “He was on my side, I caught him on a good day. Luckily it’s back and hopefully, it’s not going anywhere.”

With all of his moves back at his disposal, Rollins will look to finally wrest the Universal Championship from Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 35.

What's next?

Hopefully, for Rollins, the move is here to stay and he finishes off Lesnar with the move to finally give Raw back a full-time champion.

If WWE gets too cute with trying to resign Lesnar and decides to actually keep the title on him, no amount of curb stomps will be enough until the belt is off his waist.
