WWE News: Seth Rollins on his original planned feud before teaming with Dean Ambrose

Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins became RAW tag team champions at SummerSlam

What's the story?

Seth Rollins was a guest on one of the recent episodes of Sam Roberts' Wrestling Podcast. In the interview, The Architect revealed that the original plan was not for him to be teaming up with Ambrose around the time he did. Instead, there was another opponent whom he had to face in singles competition.

In case you didn't know...

Seth Rollins has been in a few different feuds since defeating Triple H at WrestleMania 33. He first feuded with Samoa Joe, whom he defeated at Payback. He was then involved in the Fatal 5-Way Extreme Rules match at Extreme Rules but was unsuccessful in becoming #1 contender for the Universal Championship.

After that, he had a brief feud with Bray Wyatt, which he lost. This was when he began his storyline with Dean Ambrose, where he went on to reunite with his former Shield brother and win the RAW Tag Team Championships at SummerSlam in a match with a tremendous finish.

The heart of the matter

Seth Rollins revealed that before he started his storyline with Dean Ambrose, the original plan was to extend his feud with Bray Wyatt, which had originally ended on the RAW after Great Balls Of Fire.

“I believe what the plan was for me and Bray Wyatt to go a few pay-per-views. And then, whatever happened, happened. Something changed and they shuffled the deck and they ended up having to reposition, which, actually, worked out much better for me, in my personal opinion. But yeah, it [has] been almost a month or so that I’ve kind of known that we were heading in this direction.”

Rollins went on to agree that it was the right decision and that he's enjoying his current program with Ambrose so much that he doesn't even mind being away from the Universal title picture. His aim is to tell a good story with it.

It definitely is a positive that it was the direction they went instead of the Bray Wyatt feud. The Seth Rollins-Bray Wyatt feud didn't do much for fans as it seemed to be the same Bray Wyatt feud as all his others. However, much to people's surprise, Bray went over Rollins: twice. The second time you could argue was a clean win.

Also, another problem with the feud with Wyatt was that it was randomly thrown together. Wyatt came to RAW a week after WrestleMania 33 and began a feud with Finn Balor. However, the feud got postponed as both Balor and Wyatt were required for the Fatal 5-Way match at Extreme Rules.

Right after this is when Rollins and Wyatt started feuding together, so the rivalry felt thrown together and not a very organic one.

What's next?

The Kingslayer Seth Rollins has his hands full with Dean Ambrose as the tag team champions continue their feud with Sheamus & Cesaro.

Bray Wyatt meanwhile, has continued his feud with Finn Balor.

Author's Take

Seeing Ambrose and Rollins' chemistry again, with this time both as babyfaces was an absolute treat for fans to watch. The tension, the bond, the chemistry and the story as a whole so far has been played out very well and organically.

It wouldn't surprise me if Rollins & Ambrose hold the titles for the rest of the year and start seeing tensions around WrestleMania time, which could lead to an excellent WrestleMania 34 match between the two. We know very well that Roman is pencilled in for his 4th straight WrestleMania main event next year anyway.
