WWE News: Seth Rollins talks about potential dream match with Kenny Omega

Two of the best wrestlers in the world have constantly fielded questions about facing each other.
Two of the best wrestlers in the world have constantly fielded questions about facing each other.

What's the story?

Seth Rollins and Kenny Omega have been two of the top wrestlers in WWE and NJPW respectively.

So naturally, fans and media outlets always ask both men about the potential of facing each other in the future. Wrestlingnews.co notes that Rollins recently spoke with La Ley 107.9, a Spanish language radio station in Chicago about the possibility of facing the Best Bout Machine.

In case you missed it . . .

Rollins has either been chasing or holding the Intercontinental Championship for most of 2018.

Since the top championship is held by the sporadically-appearing Brock Lesnar, it made sense for the main title on Raw to be held by one of the top wrestlers on the show.

Dean Ambrose recently defeated Rollins for the title, possibly opening up Rollins for a crack at the Universal Championship or another title down the line. Omega had failed in his previous three matches to wrest the IWGP Heavyweight Championship from rival Kazuchika Okada.

He was successful, however, in defeating Okada for the belt in June in a 2-out-of-3 falls match. Over the last few years, both Omega and Rollins have been among the top wrestlers in the world regardless of promotion.

It's only natural for people to dream up scenarios where the two wrestlers would have a match that would likely be amazing.

The heart of the matter

While speaking with La Ley 107.9 in order to promote the WWE Live events in Chicago next week, Rollins addressed the elephant in the world of wrestling of a dream match with Omega (H/T WrestleZone):

“Kenny and I worked in Ring of Honor for a short period of time together but that was another lifetime ago. It was probably 10 years ago. We never officially had a one-on-one match.
The question was posed to me, ‘Who would you want to face outside the WWE and the obvious answer was Kenny Omega. That’s a guy that I’ve never faced one-on-one, and I’m all about testing myself. I think I’m the absolute best, and make no doubt about it, Kenny Omega is also one of the best in the world.”

Rollins was just starting out in his career in the time he is referring to, while Omega was also bouncing around the world in plying his craft.

What's next?

Rollins has helped keep Raw afloat as one of its top performers in 2018.

His matches with Dolph Ziggler and the Miz defending and chasing the Intercontinental Title have been among the top matches of 2018 in WWE. He also had a career-making performance in a gauntlet match on Raw earlier in the year.

Omega has proven to be one of the top wrestlers in NJPW and the world. In finally capturing the IWGP Heavyweight Championship in June, he finally had the physical validation of that fact.

He's slated to defend the title at Wrestle Kingdom 13 against Hiroshi Tanahashi. It might be one of his final matches with NJPW or he could opt to resign with NJPW.

But with the potential of All Elite Wrestling starting up next year, it might be his final run with the company. For the two stars to face each other, however, it would either be in the WWE (Rollins is likely a lifer in WWE) or in either of the men's backyard.
