The heart of the matter

A number of reports suggested that Rollins would swap places with AJ Styles during the recently concluded Superstar Shake-up and spend 2018 as one of the cornerstones of SmackDown Live. However, the first NXT Champion remained on the flagship show while The Miz was drafted by Shane McMahon and Paige.

Since The A-Lister is now a member of the SmackDown Live roster, it is unlikely that he will the Intercontinental title.

What's next?

Backlash will take place at the Prudential Centre in Newark, New Jersey on May 06, 2018.

Author's take

Rollins looks set to have a long and memorable run as Intercontinental Champion. Even though he won't enjoy a world title run for the foreseeable future, fans of the Iowa native still have plenty to be excited about.

The Miz, on the other, looks set to form an alliance with Big Cass and finally have a long-awaited program with Daniel Bryan which could even culminate at Summerslam.
