What’s the story?
WWE Hall of Famer and veteran of the wrestling business Shawn Michaels was recently a guest on the In This Corner podcast, where the 'Heart Break Kid' discussed his iconic WrestleMania 24 match against 'Nature Boy' Ric Flair.
During the conversation, Michaels claimed that it was originally his idea to choreograph the WrestleMania 24 match against Flair, in order to pay homage and tribute to his childhood hero.

Ric Flair and Shawn Michaels’ WrestleMania 24 match is regarded as one of the most memorable matches in both Michaels and Flair’s significant wrestling careers. This was also Ric Flair’s retirement match and prior to this contest against HBK, Flair said that “it would be an honor for him to retire at the hands of Shawn Michaels”.
The heart of the matter
During his interview with In This Corner, Shawn Michaels opened up about the significance of his WrestleMania 24 bout against Ric Flair. According to Michaels, it was influential for him to take creative control on that match because that match had a great amount of implication to it and it was more than just a wrestling match for HBK.
Additionally, Michaels also said that he had a lot of deep feelings and emotions attached towards that match, as he wanted Ric Flair to get a perfect send-off in his farewell bout and wanted the Nature Boy to get the ideal retirement. Michaels stated:
"Truth be told, when it came to that kind of stuff, I am a bit of a control freak. Emotionally, I just knew where I wanted - especially with that match, that might quite honestly it was my 'love letter' to Ric Flair."

In recent months, Shawn Michaels has been affiliated with WWE’s developmental territory of NXT, where he has been acting as a consultant for all the NXT Superstars. Michaels also told In This Corner, that the biggest advice he can give them is to enjoy pro-wrestling to its fullest.
