What's the story?

WWE SmackDown Live superstar Shelton Benjamin has said there are only 5 superstars he feels he can trust to call moves in the ring mid-match, in an interview with ESPN.

Before his return, Benjamin worked with the company from 2003 to 2010, where he teamed with Charlie Haas and Kurt Angle, winning 3 Tag Team Championships.

After breaking from the group, Benjamin won the Intercontinental Championship in 2004, and the United States Championship in 2008.

The heart of the matter

Speaking to ESPN, Benjamin, said how they are only a few superstars he feels he can trust to call 'spots' mid match.

"There are only a few people in WWE that I would trust having a good match with to just call it in the ring: Randy Orton, John Cena, AJ Styles, Brock Lesnar and Shinsuke Nakamura."

The former United States Champion also spoke about his first run with the company and learning to call spots with Eddie and Chavo Guerrero.

"We told them they didn't need to tell us spot-for-spot, but we just don't know the things you're trying to do. Eddie, who was always the captain of the ship said, 'You guys are right, and I need to be a better captain.' He started teaching us the spots. So the next six months we never planned anything. We just showed up and had a great time in the ring."

What's next?

It's interesting to see how the older stars are trained, as opposed to younger talent.

Benjamin can be seen every week on SmackDown Live, which airs Tuesday nights on the USA Network.
