What’s the story?

The winner of the 2018 Men’s Royal Rumble match Shinsuke Nakamura was recently interviewed by Arash Markazi of ESPN.com during which ‘The Artist’ spoke about the importance of the Royal Rumble match and what his Royal Rumble win means to him.

In case you didn’t know…

On 28th January 2018, former two-time NXT Champion Shinsuke Nakamura created history when he won the 2018 Men’s Royal Rumble and became the first Japanese superstar to win the historic Rumble match. Nakamura, who entered the Rumble match at #14, eliminated the likes of Sami Zayn, John Cena, and Roman Reigns in order to book his ticket to the Wrestlemania 34 main-event in New Orleans.

The heart of the matter

While speaking with Arash Markazi, Shinsuke Nakamura stated that this Royal Rumble win is the biggest thing to happen in his career so far. However, that’s until WrestleMania 34 this year which will be the biggest thing in his life.

Additionally, ‘The King of Strong Style’ also said that despite the presence of Roman Reigns, Randy Orton, and John Cena in the Rumble match, he felt that the WWE Universe in Philadelphia was wholeheartedly rooting for Nakamura during the Royal Rumble match.

“I feel like I’m a new guy, but the WWE Universe really supported me,” Nakamura stated.

Lastly, Nakamura also said this was his first time being in a match with these kinds of rules as he has never watched the Royal Rumble match before, however, the Japanese superstar also claimed that he thoroughly enjoyed the Rumble match regardless of this being his debut at the Royal Rumble.

What’s next?

Shinsuke Nakamura is now slated to be in the main event of Wrestlemania 34 in New Orleans later this year when ‘The King of Strong Style’ challenges AJ Styles for the WWE Championship at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

The two men have previously faced off in New Japan Pro Wrestling back in 2016 when they collided at the Tokyo Dome during Wrestle Kingdom 10 for the IWGP Intercontinental Championship. The WM 34 match is the much-anticipated rematch between the two men.

Author’s Take

The WWE Universe and the rest of the Pro Wrestling world are finally about to witness the epic rematch between Nakamura and Styles at Wrestlemania this year and there is no doubt that the match will be an absolute show stealer.
