WWE News: SmackDown Tag Team challenges Champions; Champions respond

A gauntlet has been thrown down to the Boss'n Hug Connection.
A gauntlet has been thrown down to the Boss'n Hug Connection.

What's the story?

During the Fastlane Kickoff Show, the IIconics came out to give their thoughts on the Women's Tag Team Title match at the PPV.

They challenged the champions then and did so again two days later during a segment on SmackDown Live. Bayley responded to the challenge of the IIconics on Twitter.

In case you didn't know...

When Bayley and Sasha Banks first won the Women's Tag Team Titles, they claimed that they would defend the title across all three major brands of WWE - Raw, SmackDown and NXT.

Since they defended it against a Raw tag team (Nia Jax and Tamina) at Fastlane, the IIconics were wondering when their time would come.

The heart of the matter

During the kickoff show of Fastlane, the IIconics issued their first challenge to the champions. And during the most recent episode of SmackDown Live, they challenged them again.

Not one to let the challenges go unnoticed, The Hugger quickly took to Twitter in order to address the Australian duo.

WWE also tweeted the challenge of the IIconics, perhaps hinting at a challenger for the Women's Champs at WrestleMania 35.

Sasha Banks and Bayley have also traveled to NXT Live events as well as last week's episode of NXT in order to state how they would be defending the newest titles in WWE across ALL of WWE.

The jury is still out as to what type of match will take place at WrestleMania concerning the Women's Tag Team titles, whether the match consists of two teams or multiple teams.

What's next?

The IIconics are one of the true teams in WWE as they have basically wrestled together throughout their entire careers.

They started out in Australia and then NXT and joined the main roster last year as a tag team. Since they are a natural duo with matching charisma, they seem like an easy choice, at least by armchair bookers, to challenge Bayley and Banks sooner rather than later.

Just like the champs, the potential challengers have been partners a lot longer than some teams that may have just been thrown together (Carmella/Naomi). Will anything come from the challenge of the IIconics?
