WWE News: Steve Austin comments on the problem with Seth Rollins

Steve Austin had some advice for Seth Rollins

What’s the story?

In the latest episode of his podcast, The Steve Austin show, WWE Hall of Famer Steve Austin spoke about the character of Seth Rollins. Austin also compared Rollins with some big names in the business and gave the Architect some advice.

In case you didn’t know...

After his win at WrestleMania 33 against Triple H, Rollins teased a potential move to SmackDown during the Superstar shake-up episode of Monday Night Raw. However, Rollins later went on to reveal that he was going to stay on Raw. Towards the end of this segment, Rollins was attacked by Samoa Joe, in turn reigniting the feud between them.

The heart of the matter

Austin started his rant by comparing Rollins with some notable characters in wrestling history as you can see below.

“Who is Seth Rollins? When you say Seth Rollins, or you say Seth ‘Freakin’ Rollins, I still don’t have a sense of what or who this guy is. That rests on Seth Rollins’ shoulder as an individual to define or create that, as well as the WWE. I still don’t get a sense of what kind of personality he is. He’s not electrifying like The Rock, he’s not anti-authority like Stone Cold, or like The Deadman, so OK, then who is he?”

The former WWE champion then went on to say that Seth was somewhat similar to Bret ‘The Hitman’ Hart, but insisted that Seth needs to work on his character.

“Look at another guy who, if I dare say, was a little introverted but obviously had an ego in Bret ‘The Hitman’ Hart. Not a larger-than-life personality, but the genuineness of his character was he was ‘The Hitman’ and he was a badass – the ‘Excellence of Execution,’ the best there is, was, and ever will be. Bret wasn’t an over the top guy, he was a pretty humble and quiet individual outside the ring. In many regards, he was somewhat like Seth – though, in many regards, Bret is an entirely different animal – but there is a case of a guy who was not a showy guy, but rather conservative, and had a highly-defined, world-class gimmick and was a badass worker. Seth needs to work on this.”

What’s next?

With Samoa Joe and Seth Rollins crossing paths once again, a match between these two is likely to happen at Payback. The Rollins – Triple H storyline seems to be over but WWE could still rehash this at a later stage. The relationship between Rollins and Kurt Angle is another subplot that the creative team could explore in the near future.

Author’s take

Rollins is still struggling to shed the heel persona that he excelled in. His match with Triple H was something designed to overcome this problem and to an extent, it was successful.

The feud with Joe is bound to provide Rollins with another platform to evolve. As far as Austin’s comments are concerned, it is a criticism that Rollins should embrace as it would be beneficial for him.
