What’s the story?
On a recent edition of The Steve Austin Show, “Stone Cold” Steve Austin opened up on a myriad of topics.
Austin weighed in on his thoughts regarding The Undertaker defeating John Cena in a one-sided match. Besides, “The Rattlesnake” also spoke about what could’ve made the matchup even better than it turned out to be.
In case you didn’t know…
The WWE had been teasing a WrestleMania 34 showdown between The Undertaker and John Cena, in the weeks leading up to the Show of Shows.
However, the dream match was never officially advertised or announced for the WrestleMania 34 card, until the moment The Undertaker appeared in front of Cena at ’Mania—leading to an impromptu matchup which saw The Undertaker beat Cena.
The heart of the matter
Steve Austin explained that he was quite shocked when the aforementioned matchup took place, as he believed that there was no way WWE would have Undertaker accept John Cena’s challenge on the very day of WrestleMania. Austin added that WWE and Cena teased the matchup, but never officially confirmed it, owing to which the fact that the match took place—in and of itself—proved to be a bonus for the fans.
Furthermore, Austin elucidated that he has a ton of respect for both Undertaker and Cena, however, he isn’t aware of what physical condition ‘Taker is in right now.
Austin continued that what could’ve made the match even better is if Cena would’ve gotten off some offense on The Undertaker—a 15-minute match with both Superstars having their moments, rather than a one-sided squash in favor of the Deadman. Austin added—
"It was what it was and I don't know how Undertaker's feeling on a physical level…He looked phenomenal and he's one of the toughest guys, I think, in the business. But Cena's probably moving on to do other things with movies, and series, and endorsements, and stuff like that. But he continues to be an ambassador for the company, and (has) a great attitude, and it not afraid to put somebody over. I respect him for that."
What’s next?
John Cena continues to perform on a part-time schedule in the WWE, in light of his blossoming Hollywood career.
Meanwhile, The Undertaker is set to face Rusev in a Casket Match at the Greatest Royal Rumble PPV event on April 27th.

Honestly speaking, the match between Undertaker and John Cena was awesome.
While Cena could’ve possibly gotten off more offense than he did, booking Undertaker in a short match after the latter having been away from the ring for so long; was indeed a great decision.
