What's the story?

Nikki Bella has asked new SmackDown Live General Manager Paige if she and Brie Bella can join SmackDown Live, with Paige and freshly called up duo The IIconics responding to the request.

In case you didn't know...

The WWE recently released an article stating that one of the things Paige could do as the new SmackDown Live General Manager is bring back tag-team titles for the women of SmackDown Live. You can see that below.

The heart of the matter

SmackDown Live would need a few more teams to fill out a women's division given that they currently have Absolution, the IIconics and probably any combination of Becky Lynch, Naomi and Charlotte as the faces. However, one female duo has its eye on a return to wrestling with Nikki Bella tweeting the below message to Paige.

Paige responded with a dismissive tweet telling Nikki Bella not to 'tease' her, suggesting that this might just be a Twitter angle, and not something that the WWE actually has planned.

However, Peyton Royce certainly didn't miss the 'Iconic' reference in Nikki's original tweet and clearly took offense to another high-profile duo joining SmackDown Live, meaning that there is a match there if WWE want it.

What's next?

A female tag-team title has been rumored for a while now and with the WWE.Com article suggesting it to be something Paige introduces coupled with this interaction between two high-profile WWE female duos and Paige, it's beginning to seem a little more likely. Take this obvious hint from Peyton Royce for example.

Author's take

Between Absolution, The IIconics, The Bella Twins and one or two other teams you have yourself a viable tag-team division for the women. Extra belts for the women to fight over definitely aren't a bad thing, especially as the storylines for the women on SmackDown have been lacking recently.
