WWE News: The Rock talks about running for President

The Great One may run for President in the future.

What’s the story?

In an interview with GQ, WWE icon Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson said there was a possibility that he could run for President of the United States of America.

The question is said to have been initiated in reference to a previous interview with Vanity Fair in November of last year, where The People’s Champion stated that he wouldn’t rule out a Presidential run in the future.

In case you didn’t know...

A 21-year veteran of the professional wrestling industry and one of the highest-grossing Hollywood stars, The Rock is widely regarded as one of the most charismatic individuals in the world, not only by the pro-wrestling community but also by the mainstream media and casual fans as well.

The heart of the matter

On being probed whether he’d consider entering the race to become POTUS in the future, The Rock stated that he feels it’s a real possibility. The Brahma Bull said that he had given the issue additional thought after being questioned about it last year, stating:

"It’s a real possibility. A year ago it started coming up more and more. There was a real sense of earnestness, which made me go home and think, 'Let me really rethink my answer and make sure I am giving an answer that is truthful and also respectful.' I didn't want to be flippant."

Furthermore, on being asked for his thoughts on current US President-elect Donald Trump, he added:

"I'd like to see a better leadership. I'd like to see a greater leadership. When there's a disagreement, and you have a large group of people that you're in a disagreement with-for example, the media-I feel like it informs me that I could be better. We all have issues, and we all gotta work our s**t out. And I feel like one of the qualities of a great leader is not shutting people out. I miss that part. Even if we disagree, we've got to figure it out.”

The Rock asserted that if he were to be elected as President, he would make sure that he would take responsibility for everyone. He alluded to the fact that if he were to find himself in a situation similar to Donald Trump, where a majority of people disagree with him, he’d take a step back and examine his mistakes instead of shutting his critics out.

What’s next?

The Rock continues to make sporadic appearances in the WWE and has blockbuster movies such as Baywatch and Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle scheduled to release this year. Although Johnson is to yet fully indulge in the world of politics as of yet, as the man himself has now stated, a potential Presidential Run may be on the cards for The Great One.

Author’s take

Dwayne Johnson is a Republican who has, in the past supported non-partisan political organisations. The man is without a doubt the epitome of charisma and one of the most influential people to have ever lived.

In my opinion, if a reality-show star/businessman like Donald Trump can ascend to the status of POTUS, the Rock most definitely can; that is if he were to try.
