WWE News: Three Matches announced for WWE Live Event in Madison Square Garden

What will happen the next time the WWE return to MSG?

What’s the story?

WWE will return to Madison Square Garden (MSG) in New York City for a Live Event on Friday, July 7, 2017, and three matches have been announced for the show. Roman Reigns will take on Bray Wyatt, Seth Rollins will battle Samoa Joe and The Miz and Dean Ambrose will compete for the Intercontinental Championship.

In case you didn’t know...

The WWE have a long history with MSG dating back to the first WrestleMania. The WWE have run a variety of shows at MSG ranging from television programming to pay-per-views like SummerSlam and Survivor Series.

The last pay-per-view that took place at MSG was Survivor Series 2011, where CM Punk began his 434-day reign with the WWE Championship and The Rock and John Cena teamed up for the first time.

The heart of the matter

Since 2011, the WWE have only done Live events at MSG due to the cost of running shows at the venue. The last time WWE had a live show at MSG was in 2015 when they broadcast a live house show headlined by Brock Lesnar taking on Big Show and Cena defending the United States Championship against Seth Rollins.

The last MSG WWE live event took place on March 12, 2017 when Lesnar took on Kevin Owens and defeated him in less than 3 minutes.

What’s next?

Cageside Seats reported that Reigns and Wyatt will enter a program with each other soon, and their match at Extreme Rules could be the catalyst that restarts their feud and leads to the program continuing at live events.

The feud between Seth Rollins and Samoa Joe doesn’t seem to be ending any time soon unless Rollins goes on to face Lesnar at Great Balls of Fire. As far as The Miz and Dean Ambrose goes, the feud began earlier this year and seems to be the next program for the title and could easily continue following Extreme Rules.

Author’s take

WWE house shows are considered by many fans as a fun experience that allows for more interaction and more fun than what’s typically seen on WWE programming. And if live events aren’t your thing, the WWE will be back in New York for NXT Takeover: Brooklyn III and SummerSlam.
