WWE News: Triple H and William Regal behind a popular superstar's return to the company

Drew McIntyre recently spoke to Fightful, and during the interview, the Scottish Psychopath revealed that Triple H and William Regal played a major role in his return to the WWE.

“The WWE name sells the product, like Drew Galloway, Drew McIntyre—real name’s Galloway—is what was making a difference to all these companies around the world and do I really want to go back when I’m making such a difference. And it wasn’t until my TNA contract lapsed; my wife and I had to decide our next move that day.

I was thinking I was gonna go to New Japan probably ‘cause I really wanted to go there and really wanted to work there. Then I got a call from William Regal, who’s a bit of a mentor of mine, who told me we’d take a call with Triple H. We spoke, and decided the next move was WWE and NXT in particular." Drew McIntyre's journey

McIntyre always aspired to be a pro wrestler and his journey began when he started his training at the tender age of 15 in 2001.

After slogging it on the indie circuit, McIntyre signed his first developmental contract with the WWE in 2007 and reported to Florida Championship Wrestling (FCW).

He was called up to the main roster and was labelled 'The Chosen One'. Despite winning the Intercontinental Championship on one occasion, the initial promise faded away and McIntyre ended up languishing in the mid-card without any concrete future.

Then 3MB happened in 2012 but the three-man faction featuring McIntyre, Jinder Mahal and Heath Slater was never going to help him reach the intended levels of success.

McIntyre would get released from WWE in 2014 and his next chapter would include a redeeming run outside WWE under the moniker Drew Galloway. He matured as a performer in the next few years, making a name for himself in many independent promotions that also included a highly successful stint in Impact Wrestling/TNA.

The good work outside WWE forced Vince McMahon's company to take notice and he was back into the company's fold in April 2017. WWE potentially hijacked an NJPW move and got 'The Chosen One' back to the company that put him on the map.

This time was different from his first outing as he was portrayed as a top-tier Superstar right from his early days in NXT. However, despite moving up to the main roster, he hasn't been able to match all the expectations, which is partly due to WWE playing it safe with the former NXT Champion. He is still highly viewed backstage and could always get a much-deserved World title push soon.

What's next for Drew McIntyre?

McIntyre was eliminated from the King of the Ring tournament by Ricochet and is currently without a match heading into Clash of Champions. The current status may not sound good for a man who was positioned as a future World Champion but as mentioned earlier, WWE still sees him as a top star and all that's needed is a little patience.
