WWE News: Roman Reigns wins ESPY Award for Best WWE Moment
What's the story?
Reigns' return to the ring after battling leukemia was chosen to be the winner of the Best WWE Moment.
In case you didn't know...
Last year, Roman Reigns came out on an episode of Monday Night Raw, and had something to say to the fans. It soon dawned upon everyone that this promo was as close to reality as it could be. Reigns revealed that he would have to relinquish the Universal Title and leave the company for an undetermined period of time to kick off his battle against leukemia.
As the crowd cheered for Reigns, he left and embraced his Shield brethren on the ramp. Earlier this year, on the road to WrestleMania 35, Reigns came back on Raw and stated that he is in remission, to a loud pop. He went on to resume his in-ring duties and defeated Drew McIntyre at The Show of Shows.
The heart of the matter
This year's ESPY Awards saw the first-ever WWE award being presented, in the category of Best WWE Moment. The nominees for the same were as follows:
- Roman Reigns' triumphant return after battle with leukemia.
- Ronda Rousey winning her first Raw Women's Title
- Becky Lynch winning the main event of WrestleMania 35
- Kofi Kingston winning the WWE Title for the first time in his career.
Roman Reigns was chosen as the winner for WWE's Best Moment category. He took to Twitter and thanked everyone who voted for him, adding that coming back meant that he was healthy enough to express his gratitude to the ones who supported him throughout the ordeal.
Reigns is all set to team up with The Undertaker to take on Shane McMahon and Drew McIntyre at Extreme Rules.
