WWE News: WWE announces rebirth of the Cruiserweight division on Raw

Will the Cruiserweight Championship also be making a comeback?

Last night’s episode of Raw started off with a promo segment in the ring between Stephanie and Shane McMahon where Stephanie announced her General Manager to be Mick Foley.

She also announced that following the Draft, Raw would be the exclusive home of the reborn Cruiserweight division. The old cruiserweight division in WCW and the light heavyweight division of the WWE provided exciting matchups on a weekly basis, and WCW’s cruiserweight division helped them take the fight to WWE during the Monday Night Wars.

WWE bringing back the Cruiserweight division exclusively to Raw also bring up a host of questions. Is the Cruiserweight Championship coming back? Who’s going to be a part of the new Cruiserweight division? Will any Cruiserweight Classic wrestlers show up directly to Raw, bypassing NXT? Will WWE be signing more independent stars to bolster the division?

Will Kota Ibushi bypass NXT and debut directly on the main roster?

If WWE do this right and let the Cruiserweights have enough time, their fast paced exciting matches can help fill up the 3 hours of Monday Night Raw with more killer and less filler. Just the thought of names like Sami Zayn, Andrade Almas, Kota Ibushi and Zack Sabre Jr tearing it up on Raw is sure to excite WWE’s fan base and breathe new life into WWE programming.
