What's the story?

WWE rocked Madison Square Garden on Friday night and, it seems that the show definitely kicked off in style as the frustrated duo of Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens, decided to target WWE Champion AJ Styles and his WrestleMania challenger Shinsuke Nakamura.

In case you didn't know...

Owens and Zayn sent a clear message to the SmackDown Live locker room last week when they attacked the Commissioner Shane McMahon and, put him out of action for a number of weeks with a laryngeal contusion as well as trapezius and rhomboid strains.

In Shane's absence, it seems that Zayn and Owens have now decided to target other members of the WWE locker room. Nakamura declared last week on SmackDown that he would help Styles whenever he needed help, until WrestleMania where he will beat him. Which could add to an interesting format between these four stars whilst Shane McMahon is on the sidelines.

The heart of the matter

As part of WWE's live event in Madison Square Garden on Friday night, Owens and Zayn kicked off the show by running out and attacking Styles and Nakamura. It seemed as though Styles suffered a legitimate ankle injury because of the attack with a steel chair, but this wasn't the case since the WWE Champion was back out later in the night and able to walk on the ankle.

WWE have shared this on their Social Media pages over the past few days, which could mean that this storyline will boil over into SmackDown Live next week. With just three weeks to go until the biggest event of the year and Zayn and Owens' match not yet announced, it could be an interesting storyline if WWE opts to use it on the main show.

What's next?

Daniel Bryan returns to SmackDown this week and will potentially address what happened between Owens, Zayn, and McMahon and how this will affect WrestleMania.

Author's take

This would have been the perfect time for Daniel Bryan to step in and team with McMahon against Owens and Zayn at WrestleMania, but since this is unlikely to happen now, the announcement will definitely be one of interest for the WWE Universe. Hopefully, this feud will boil over onto SmackDown and the alliance between Nakamura and Styles will be tested ahead of their WrestleMania showdown.
