What's the story?

Chris Jericho discussed his upcoming match against Kenny Omega, New Japan Pro-Wrestling's finest, on his podcast, Talk Is Jericho.

In case you didn't know...

Over the past week or two, Jericho and Omega have been at each other's throats on social media. This culminated in a match between the two at Wrestle Kingdom 12.

Reportedly, Jericho had met with NJPW in their New York office and negotiated for several weeks before agreeing to a deal.

The heart of the matter

Jericho said he had his heart set on the match and worked to make it happen. He was excited at the prospect of having his first match outside of the WWE since 1999. Next, he praised Omega for being the best and most critically-acclaimed performer in professional wrestling today.

He added that in his opinion, this really was a situation of two "best in the worlds" clashing. Y2J insinuated himself to be the Alpha of pro wrestling, and greatest of all time; thereby making the match ''Alpha vs Omega''.

Jericho was pleased that everything was according to plan. He noted how the match remained a secret until for long and is now it has taken the pro wrestling world by fire, with him being in the centre.

Chris then concluded his thoughts by suggesting the match will be one of the biggest pro wrestling matches, being a co-main event.

What's next?

The match is scheduled to take place on January 4th, at the Tokyo Dome. Until then, the world of wrestling will wait with bated breath.

Author's take

Two of the best wrestlers on the planet will face each other in a dream match. It will surely be one for the ages. I am looking forward to seeing my childhood hero Y2J show that he still has what it takes to hang in there with the best of them at NJPW.
