WWE/NJPW News: Chris Jericho shares further details regarding a possible future in NJPW

Will Y2J return to NJPW in 2018?
Will Y2J return to NJPW in 2018?

What’s the story?

WWE veteran Chris Jericho was recently in a conversation with ESPN. He spoke about his special cameo appearance at Monday Night Raw’s special 25th Anniversary episode and among other things, the Fozzy Y2J also opened up about the ending of his NJPW run, claiming that sometimes things certainly doesn’t work out the way one actually hopes for.

In case you didn’t know…

Following his Wrestle Kingdom 12 loss to Kenny Omega, earlier in the year, Chris Jericho seemingly started teasing a potential match against Los Ingobernables de Japon leader Tetsuya Naito at this year’s NJPW: New Year’s Dash event at the Korakuen Hall, when Y2J brutally blindside attacked Naito.

Following the brawl between the two men, several reports have apparently suggested that a match between Jericho and Naito is definitely on the cards and could very well take place later this year.

The heart of the matter

As much as fans would love to see Chris Jericho make his return to NJPW sometime later this year, it now seems like a potential return to Japan for ‘The Ayatollah of Rock ‘n’ Rolla’ might indeed be off the cards, as Jericho recently told ESPN that sometimes in life things definitely doesn’t go according to plan as Y2J stated the following:

“Things change. That’s how it goes. Sometimes things seem like a good idea at the time, and then when you look at it a little bit deeper and a little bit further, you realize it’s not gonna go the way you want it to go.”

What’s next?

Chris Jericho’s quote could very well hint towards the possibility of an NJPW departure for the former six-time WWE World Champion, as a matter of fact, Jericho did note on Twitter earlier this year, that he is indeed done with NJPW and a return is off the cards.

However, according to several reports, Jericho is supposed to have a one-on-one match with Tetsuya Naito, who was brutally attacked by the former during this year’s NJPW: New Year’s Dash event.

Author’s Take

Personally, I hope that Chris Jericho makes his return to NJPW and sticks with the company for a while. Jericho’s NJPW persona is definitely a mean and ruthless side of him, which we rarely get to see in the WWE.
