What's the story?
WWE legend Shawn Michaels will be making an appearance at NXT TakeOver: WarGames, where Mr Wrestlemania will challenge popular NXT star Johnny Gargano to a unique contest.
In case you didn't know...
Shawn Michaels has been working backstage with NXT of late. He's currently with the NXT Superstars on their recent tour and has been working closely with Johnny Gargano, releasing a series of videos with Johnny Wrestling on his Twitter account.
The heart of the matter
The most recent video that Michaels uploaded was an exciting one; Michaels vs Gargano is somewhat of a dream match for many people, and Shawn had finally challenged Gargano to a contest at NXT TakeOver: Wargames. But, and there really is a but, I doubt this is what many people would have had in mind.
So it's official, Johnny Gargano will face off with HBK at NXT TakeOver: WarGames in an ab-off, where it will be decided, once and for all, who has the best the abs — Mr Wrestlemania or Johnny Wrestling?
What's next?
Shawn Michaels will be officiating a huge title match the night before WarGames at a non-televised event in San Antonio. HBK will be the special guest referee in an NXT Title match between Drew McIntyre and Adam Cole, with the result potentially having huge repercussions for TakeOver.
Author's take
We've all been waiting patiently for Shawn Michaels to return to the ring and we're finally getting it at NXT TakeOver: WarGames, albeit not in a way that any of us saw coming. Still, I think there are some angles in the works here and that this contest could lead to something.
