What's the story?
When your champion takes off to WWE's main roster it puts you in an odd dilemma. This recently happened to NXT and William Regal as they had to figure out a plan to crown a new Women's Champion when Asuka departed for Raw. The match is now set for NXT TakeOver: War Games and it looks like this one could steal the show.
In case you didn't know...
Kairi Sane rolled through every competitor in front of her during the Mae Young Classic. After she won her match to capture that huge trophy in Las Vegas it was announced the former Kairi Hojo would get a shot at the NXT Women's Championship.
On the next television taping a couple of triple threat matches were set up in order to determine who would get the other spots in a fatal four-way match set for NXT TakeOver: War Games in Houston. Peyton Royce and Ember Moon won spots in the match at TakeOver leaving one more spot to be claimed.
The heart of the matter
During the television tapings on Wednesday evening, they held a massive women's battle royal for the vacant spot in the NXT Women's Title match at TakeOver: War Games.
There were a number of names in the battle royal who haven't been announced to have WWE contracts yet as well. Mercedes Martinez, Santana Garrett, and Candice LeRae were included in this big match opportunity.
But in the end, Nikki Cross would come out on top to solidify her spot in the big match at the next TakeOver show.
Therefore, the match to determine the new NXT Women's Title will be Kairi Sane vs Ember Moon vs Peyton Royce vs Nikki Cross.
What's next?
NXT TakeOver: War Games is going to be an amazing show. Not only will it feature a stunning return for the War Games gimmick match, but it will also be highlighted by a fatal four-way match which could steal the show.
Author's take
I don't expect Kairi Sane to win this match because she's still fresh to WWE's developmental territory. Of course, stranger things have happened before. Maybe they placed her in a championship match like this in order to prove herself to the NXT Universe.
But no matter how the NXT Women's Title Match turns out, it will be a night nobody will soon forget when the WWE Superstars of tomorrow throw down in Houston.
