WWE has been trying hard week after week to take their ratings for both Raw and SmackDown Live higher by pulling all possible strings.

The July 22 edition of Monday Night Raw promised a huge night of returns as legends of the past made one-night special appearances on WWE's premier show. This was a great way to ensure that ratings would shoot up, but a bad show would have left them with not many options left for the future.

We watched some of the biggest names, which included Hulk Hogan, Mick Foley, Stone Cold, Kurt Angle, and Hurricane, come out and enjoy a huge pop from the crowd.

While all the legends coming in was a great idea for a one-night rating boost, WWE had to play off that to give their newer superstars a boost to enjoy better ratings in the coming weeks.

In this article, we will look at the 4 things WWE got just right on this week’s episode which could help them develop future storylines:

#4 Gave the Viking Raiders some decent competition

The Viking Raiders have been going to and fro on the red brand tearing through their competition and showcasing their dominance. The only thing that has been wrong with this is that they’ve been doing so against local competitors who don’t matter.

They finally got some real competition, as a match between them and Curt Hawkins and Zack Ryder was scheduled for the night. Even though Hawkins and Ryder haven’t been the best-booked competitors in WWE, they were the Raw Tag Team Champions coming out of WrestleMania 35.

The match was decent and showcased more of the dominating duo than we have seen earlier in the main brand. This seems like a step in the right direction, as we have already seen how dominant these two men are, but now they need some real competition to go to the top of the tag team division.

#3 Awarded the 24/7 Championship the segment it deserves

One thing we knew for certain before the show was that the 24/7 Championship will be out for some fun during the night.

While WWE has disappointed us on many fronts recently, it did not do so when the green strap was involved. The segment managed to bring out some of the biggest faces in WWE’s history while giving us a few legendary champions in the process.

The best part was that we got our first (and then more) female 24/7 Champion which now opens up many more possibilities for the title’s storylines.

With Carmella and Renee Michelle involved in the mix along with R-Truth and Drake Maverick, will WWE plan to turn the tides in the coming few weeks?

Whatever the plan is, we got the entertainment we deserved in this short and silly segment filled with some big names.

#2 The Fiend steals the spotlight

One man I was personally excited to see at the Raw Reunion was none other than the legendary Mick Foley. The reason for that is simple, every time Mick Foley steps into the ring, he either kicks things off with a great promo or introduces something new in WWE. He’s the man who brought us the 24/7 Championship amidst much criticism.

Similarly, when Foley took the ring last night on Monday Night Raw, many were convinced that it was for something bigger than just airing his most memorable moment. Our dreams came true as The Fiend appeared once again, and took out the legend with the Mandible Claw, taking the spotlight away from the legend.

Foley put over Bray Wyatt in a big way, and once again provided his services to WWE and the fans in the biggest way possible in a short but effective segment.

#1 Drew McIntyre and Cedric Alexandar get a push

Last week, Cedric Alexander pulled off the mother of all upsets, as the former Cruiserweight Champion pinned the Scottish Psychopath clean on Raw.

This week on Raw, McIntyre did not give Cedric a second chance and let his anger and frustration do the talking instead. He cut off Cedric Alexander on the entrance ramp and beat him down before hitting him with a reverse Alabama Slam onto the apron.

While we’d expected WWE would book a rematch where McIntyre would squash Cedric and stand tall, ending this little feud and whatever momentum Cedric built last week, we were surprised by this booking.

Not only was this good for both the superstars, as Cedric has the only legal win over McIntyre but McIntyre got his revenge in a different manner which will hopefully keep the feud running into SummerSlam.

This is a great chance for WWE to build McIntyre as a top heel and Cedric as a big mid-card babyface.
