Remembering Eddie Guerrero: 10 greatest moments of his career

2 – His match against Rey Mysterio at Halloween Havoc 1997

The beginning of a classic

At WCW Halloween Havoc 1997, Eddie Guerrero put his Cruiserweight Championship on the line against Rey Mysterio, while Rey put his mask on the line. The match was only fourteen minutes, but there was nothing bad about it. If you blinked, you missed something important. Both men took it to their best, and Mysterio showed that he can produce gold in the ring.

Of course Mysterio won, to keep his mask, but this is just another thing that is so important to the career of Eddie Guerrero simply for being a part of it. Guerrero was a genius in the ring, especially with Mysterio, and though they’ve had many matches together, this contest remains their best one.

1 – Winning the WWE Championship

The moment that made Eddie an icon

Was there ever any doubt? This moment had the most votes by far, and fairly so. In 2004, on the January 29th edition of SmackDown, Eddie Guerrero won a 15-man Battle Royal, last eliminating Kurt Angle, making him the Number One Contender for the WWE Championship, and he faced the champion Brock Lesnar at No Way Out.

Nobody thought Eddie would walk out champion. Lesnar dominated the match with a few offensive spots from Eddie. It was Goldberg who assisted Eddie win. In the build-up to his match against Brock Lesnar, Goldberg was handed a ticket in the front row by Stone Cold Steve Austin, and during this match, Goldberg jumped the barricade and speared Lesnar, followed by Guerrero delivering a Frog Splash and pinning Lesnar for the win.

Eddie Guerrero had done it. He had achieved the highest achievement. After fighting his inner demons, and making it through all those hard times, he was WWE Champion.
