WWE Royal Rumble 2019: 5 Reasons Why The Miz & Shane McMahon Will Win The SmackDown Tag Team Championship

They call themselves "The best tag team in the world". Last year, you wouldn't ever imagine that Shane McMahon and The Miz would become allies in the unlikeliest of scenarios. It all started in the WWE World Cup tournament. A tournament filled with only American superstars.

The final saw The Miz go up against his old foe Dolph Ziggler, and he was injured mid-match and Ziggler was about to win by default. However, Shane McMahon refused to let that happen and ended up entering himself into the tournament, going on to win the entire thing.

It was controversial, and at the time, frankly quite stupid. However, it did result in The Miz and Shane McMahon's alliance, and that's been nothing short of entertaining. So in hindsight, atleast something good came out of it.

Despite only wrestling as a tag team against some enhancement talent (and losing at one point), The Miz & Shane McMahon will be challenging The Bar for the SmackDown Tag Team Championships. Let's look at five reasons why "The Best Tag Team In The World" will be walking out as champions.

#5. To test The Miz as a babyface champion

Believe it or not, there was actually a period of time where The Miz was a babyface, but it flopped hard and he turned back heel, a role which suits him perfectly. However, WWE has chosen to take the interesting rout of having him be a babyface again, and we respect creative for taking the risk.

The Miz hasn't done all too bad as a babyface so far, because he is essentially the same character, he just doesn't direct his insults towards the crowd anymore. While we all know that The Miz can be a great heel world champion even now, WWE likely want to test the waters with how he does with a babyface title run.

#4. A great storyline

Shane thinks Miz and Sheamus should battle tonight, and he reminds The Miz that he’s “the most must-see Superstar in WWE history!”

Whether you admit it or not, The Miz's alliance with Shane has been an absolutely entertaining storyline. We've even seen the "odd pairing" story with The Bar before, and that was nothing short of outstanding.

This may be Shane McMahon's best storyline in a while, and they clearly have good chemistry together. Having them win the SmackDown Tag Team Championship would only add further interest to the story and we can see where it leads to.

#3. A feel-good moment on the show

We all like a feel-good moment on the show. While Becky Lynch and Seth Rollins winning would be great, The Best Tag Team In The World are the clear underdogs in this match. With the crowd being clearly behind them, having them win the SmackDown Tag Team titles would be a great feel-good moment for the show, especially after Shane McMahon revealed his dream to become tag team champions as a child.

Wouldn't you love to see them win the tag titles?

#2. A fresh change to SmackDown Live's tag team division

... but Shane sends Cesaro careening into one of the cakes when he tries to get involved!

Not that SmackDown's tag division isn't stacked, but you could argue that they've underutilised talents such as Gallows & Anderson and Sanity, who have basically been non-existent since their debuts on the brand.

Even so, with the tag division centring around The Usos, The New Day and The Bar, it does make sense that WWE would want to freshen things up a bit and add some spice to it. The Miz & Shane McMahon would certainly do that.

#1. A WrestleMania match

Miz gets Shane with the cake!

This is the most likely scenario. As much as we'd like for The Miz and Shane McMahon to become a tag team and stay that way, we all know that Shane McMahon is always in a featured WrestleMania match.

The Miz doesn't seem to be in the main event scene, so it's likely that The Miz will end up turning on Shane McMahon, leading to a match at the Grandest Stage Of Them All. They would need a good stipulation for the match, such as a street fight.
