WWE Royal Rumble 2019: 5 ways Finn Balor can defeat Brock Lesnar

Finn Balor is undoubtedly the underdog going up against Brock Lesnar at the Royal Rumble, as is any superstar. However, we've seen in recent times that Brock Lesnar actually matches up better with "smaller" superstars than he does with bigger ones such as Braun Strowman.

Braun Strowman was Brock Lesnar's originally scheduled opponent, but it seems as though he wasn't medically cleared on time, leaving WWE to write him out of the match in the storyline. As a result, Finn Balor was instantly one among four who inserted themselves in the Universal title picture.

He was pushed as an underdog from the start, with Vince McMahon questioning his place among the other three, primarily due to his size. However, he was made to go through a daunting task and proved himself, first beating Jinder Mahal to keep his #1 contenders shot, and then wrestling the match that same night.

Balor got a big rub as he pinned John Cena. While it seems clear that Finn Balor won't be winning the Universal Championship, here are five ways in the storyline that he can dethrone The Beast Incarnate Brock Lesnar

#5. Paul Heyman's assistance

Paul Heyman separating from Brock Lesnar is something that people have wanted to see for a while. They went with that story during the 2018 feud against Roman Reigns for SummerSlam, but it turned out to be one big ploy.

However, what if we got a flashback to Survivor Series 2002 where Heyman turned on Lesnar? Heyman turning on his client and helping Balor win would serve the purpose of putting Balor over while also simultaneously protecting Lesnar.

Moreover, it would add to the shock value. Would Heyman end up aligning himself with Balor? It would certainly prove to be the end of Lesnar's run in WWE.

#4. Illegal tactics

Illegal tactics to win isn't really a babyface thing (with the sole exception of Eddie Guerrero), it's not something that we haven't seen before. Finn Balor, from a physical perspective, would obviously stand no chance against Brock Lesnar. The entire match will feature him getting rag dolled.

This is why in order to win, Balor may use a weapon, or worse, might go down low the way Daniel Bryan did to win the WWE Championship. It wouldn't necessarily turn Balor heel, but it could add an edge to his character and make him a tweener, something that's far better than being a smiling babyface.

In kayfabe, trying to fly high while Lesnar is in the air is the worst possible thing to do. We've seen it with superstars like AJ Styles before, where they try to fly high, only to be caught mid-air and hit with an F-5.

Balor has the agility and is a high-flyer, which would mean that he knows exactly what to avoid to prevent getting pinned.

#2. Using the Demon

What better time to unleash the Demon? Finn Balor may have the odds stacked against him, but if we've seen anything, it's that the Demon persona comes out on special occasions and makes him stronger.

Brock Lesnar wouldn't even have to be protected. Demon Balor could struggle but still beat Brock Lesnar clean as a whistle, and Lesnar wouldn't look bad in defeat. It's honestly WWE's best option to make Balor win if he is winning at all.

If WWE really wants to put Balor over, the best way to do it would be a hard-fought, clean victory, Demon or no demon. We mentioned Lesnar gelling well with smaller superstars like AJ Styles and Daniel Bryan. This could be the case, except the major difference between this match and the two mentioned ones are that the "smaller" man would actually prevail.

Lesnar can credibly be taken to his limit by Balor and Balor could end up picking up the big upset win after all. It would make for a feel-good moment.
