Drew McIntyre will be defending his WWE Championship against five other men at the Elimination Chamber. However, Universal Champion Roman Reigns opted out of the same predicament. He chose to face the winner of SmackDown's Elimination Chamber match instead.

Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio revealed the reason behind The Tribal Chief Roman Reigns not being a part of the Elimination Chamber match. He stated that it was merely a way to get more heat on Roman Reigns. Also, WWE may have wanted to make sure that their RAW and SmackDown Elimination Chamber matches are not identical in the stipulation.

“It’s a way to get heat on Reigns. Originally, Reigns was going to be in the chamber match. That was the original idea and then I guess they didn’t want to do it on both shows or something. Whatever…they wanted to tweak it, so they tweaked it.”

The Elimination Chamber pay-per-view is a pitstop on the Road to WrestleMania. Drew McIntyre and Roman Reigns are mostly favored to retain their world titles at the event.
