However, the referee of the match Marty Elias revealed on the Talk Is Jericho podcast that there was a time during the match where The Undertaker could have been defeated:
“The only thing that I was given instruction, ‘Taker gave me instruction, was that if he didn’t get back after the dive, to shoot count him out. That was the only instruction that I was given.”
While Shawn Michaels breaking The Undertaker's streak would have been a moment in its own right, a cont-out victory would certainly have not gone down well with the fans.
The Undertaker's streak went on unblemished for another five years before he lost to Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 30.
