WWE Rumors: Asuka's main roster call-up put on hold

Asuka has been undefeated in NXT holding the Women’s Championship nearly a year...

What’s the story?

According to Dave Meltzer, Asuka will not be called up to the main roster anytime soon.

In case you didn’t know...

Asuka has been a professional wrestler since 2004. Including the NXT title, she has won a total of 15 championships during her career.

The heart of the matter

The women's’ division of NXT was decimated by call-ups because of the WWE Draft last year. The brand lost Bayley, Nia Jax, and Alexa Bliss all at the same time.

Triple H has expressed in previous interviews that he was very frustrated by having to deal with so much change to a division in a short amount of time. If Asuka does stay in NXT for the foreseeable future, then it is safe to assume that Triple H 's words have been heard in the right places.

What’s next?

NXT Takeover: Orlando takes place on the night before WrestleMania. The undefeated Asuka will take on one of her biggest challenges to date when she takes on Ember Moon for the belt. Asuka’s championship reign will reach a full 365 days on April 1st (the night of Takeover).

Author’s take

I believe that Asuka is more than ready for the main roster, but if this is Triple H’s decision, I’m behind it 110%. Until more stars like Ember Moon, Billy Kay, and Peyton Royce are established, the division needs Asuka.

NXT has built itself up as the legitimate third brand of the company, and Asuka is the biggest star in its women’s division. While NXT is still a developmental “territory” for up and coming stars, it is also a touring brand; and consequently, it requires veterans with name value such as Asuka, Bobby Roode and Shinsuke Nakamura to sell tickets and pass on their knowledge.
