It's the Kofi Kingston show!
It's the Kofi Kingston show!

What's the story?

Kofi Kingston was a whisker away from realizing a life-long dream of becoming WWE Champion at Elimination Chamber before Daniel Bryan somehow managed to retain his title. However, the fans have voiced their opinions about wanting a Kofi vs. Bryan match at WrestleMania 35 in the aftermath of the highly emotional Elimination Chamber main event.

The WWE though isn't in the mood to wait until Mania and as per a report from Dave Meltzer, may book the match for Fastlane itself.

In case you didn't know...

It's an inarguable fact that Kingston has been the MVP of the WWE this week. The New Day member's incredible performances on SmackDown and the subsequent Elimination Chamber PPV have made him the hottest property in pro wrestling.

He was given Mustafa Ali's spot after the up-and-comer suffered an untimely injury. Kingston was also given the creative plans that were reserved for Ali and he took it with both hands. It can be argued that the former 205 Live Superstar would not have gotten the reactions that the 7-time WWE Tag Team Champion received.

The heart of the matter

On the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Radio, Meltzer revealed that WWE is planning to give Kingston a shot at the WWE title at the upcoming Fastlane PPV which is scheduled to take place on Mach 10th, 2019.

The original plan was to have Bryan defend the strap against Samoa Joe and AJ Styles in a triple threat match, as per the listings of The Q Arena which will host Fastlane. However, sources close to Meltzer told him that WWE rewrote the plans after Kingston's exemplary displays in the Gauntlet and Elimination Chamber matches.

WWE will confirm Bryan's Fastlane opponent in a few hours on SmackDown Live but as things stand, Kingston is the front-runner.

Additionally, Meltzer stated that Bryan may face a returning superstar at WrestleMania 35 and not Kinsgton. Creative has shortlisted seven names who could get the spot and none of them currently feature on the blue brand.

What's next?

While we all wanted WrestleMania showdown between Kingston and Bryan, the fans shouldn't complain about what could be in store for Fastlane.

Also, the plans in the WWE change at the drop of a hat and you never know how Fastlane ends up affecting the eventual WWE title match for the show of shows. For now, enjoy the Kingston push and stay tuned for more on the same.
