What's the story?

Dean Ambrose turned babyface on this week's Raw and it has naturally left the fans talking about the rationale behind the unexpected decision.

As revealed by Dave Meltzer from the Wrestling Observer, the line Ambrose on Raw was never part of the original script and that it was altered at the last moment by the former Shield member himself. The pro wrestling journalist also disclosed the reason behind the booking of the segment.

In case you didn't know...

It's a widely known fact that the Lunatic Fringe will be leaving the WWE when his current contract expires in April. The former WWE Champion has been frustrated with his creative direction and is not quitting due to the lack of monetary gains. WWE even reportedly offered Ambrose a contract with a pay rise which was flatly rejected by the former Intercontinental Champion.

While it was initially thought to be work, the current scenario points at Ambrose's departure clearly being legitimate and it's highly unlikely that he will be convinced to stick around for some more time.

As things stand, he is still a WWE employee and has to be utilized on the road to WrestleMania 35 considering his star power. In all honesty, the manner in which he has been booked off late has been confusing, to say the least.

The heart of the matter

Meltzer opened up about the Ambrose-Rollins segment from Raw on the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Radio. He revealed that WWE gave Ambrose a different line to say but he wasn't a big fan of it and changed the script according to his own liking.

Meltzer said, “That turn was ridiculous. I don’t even know, well I do know they had something scripted and Dean wasn’t feeling it and Dean did what he did and my god was it bad.”

The reason behind Ambrose's turn has been attributed to the fact that he is a fan favorite and that is what the fans wanted before he left the company for good.

What's next?

Nobody knows the answer to the aforementioned question when it comes to the creative plans for Ambrose's immediate future. All we can hope for is that WWE uses him smartly as he still has great value in the larger scheme of things and that is to put forth a memorable WrestleMania card.
