WWE Rumors: Disappointing news on Dean Ambrose's status after Shield reunion

He may not stay after all.
He may not stay after all.

What's the story?

Dean Ambrose's contract situation is getting ridiculously confusing now! WWE got the Shield back together on the most recent episode of Raw and also addressed his impending departure at various points during the broadcast. These mentions coupled with a report doing the rounds yesterday convinced the fans that the Lunatic Fringe had indeed changed his mind about quitting after WrestleMania 35.

However, Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer was quick to burst the bubble on the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Radio. The pro wrestling journalist revealed that Ambrose is still on course for an exit and has not signed any contract extension.

In case you didn't know...

WWE did the predictable this week as they booked a Shield reunion in front of a raucous Philly crowd. The show began with Roman Reigns coming out to cut a promo about his desire to go for the Universal title. He wished Rollins all the good luck for his WrestleMania match against Brock Lesnar and then made a heartfelt request.

Reigns addressed Ambrose's departure and asked Rollins if they could get the Shield together again because he felt this may be the last time the three could ride together. Ambrose would come near the ramp, would get taken out by Elias but did not seem too thrilled about Reigns' proposal.

After a prolonged teaser, Ambrose just couldn't resist the reunion anymore as he helped Reigns and Rollins fend off an attack from Drew McIntyre, Bobby Lashley, and Baron Corbin. The Hounds of Justice bumped their fists as the fans went wild!

So was that good enough from the WWE to convince Ambrose to stick around?

The heart of the matter

We had earlier reported about the current backstage mood regarding the entire Ambrose saga. Talents behind the scenes feel he will extend his contract, however, Meltzer reported that Ambrose is still sticking to his plan of walking away from the company.

It's interesting to note that WWE is slowly incorporating Ambrose's real-life contract status with the angle on TV and that adds to the ambiguity regarding his immediate future.

It's a known backstage fact that the former WWE Champion has already turned down various offers, but, with Roman Reigns and The Shield back in the equation, anything is possible.

Is it a work? Is it real? Is it a real situation being turned into a work? There are too many burning questions. Ambrose, though, seems stubborn about leaving.

What's next?

WWE is not going to give up on Ambrose that easily as he is an established Superstar who needs to stay at all costs. The Shield is back, WrestleMania 35 is around the corner, and the time after 'Mania has immense potential with a stacked roster and many tantalizing feuds waiting to be booked.

Just give The Lunatic Fringe whatever he desires and keep him WWE!
