WWE Rumors: Jeff Jarrett Signs With WWE

The King of The Mountain is back!
The King of The Mountain is back!

What's the story?

Just one day removed from his cameo appearance in the 2019 Royal Rumble match, PWInsider has revealed that WWE Hall of Famer, TNA/Impact Wrestling and Global Force Wrestling founder Jeff Jarrett has signed a contract to return to WWE.

In case you didn't know...

Former Champion Jeff Jarrett left WWE on incredibly ugly circumstances back in October 1999.

Vince McMahon had apparently never been a big Double J fan, to begin with, but Jeff's departure for WCW turned their relationship even worse. The story goes that in order to drop the WWE Intercontinental Championship to Chyna in his final match at No Mercy 1999, Jarrett asked to be paid $150,000 that he was owed by the company over royalties.

There was no problem with this request. However, Jeff then demanded they double the amount, due to WWE having previously changed the terms of Jeff's WWE contract, one year earlier, causing him to lose out on money. WWE agreed to this but it caused Jarrett to leave on terrible terms, so bad that Vince McMahon would publicly fire Jeff from WCW live on Monday Night RAW.

Jarrett would then start his own promotion, TNA Wrestling and attempted to compete with WWE for several years. Although they never did well in terms of ratings, they were a notable thorn in WWE's side for several years. After leaving TNA, Jeff founded a second company, Global Force Wrestling in 2014, but it never amounted to very much.

After Jeff Jarrett's personal problems took over his life, wife Karen Jarrett contacted Kurt Angle and WWE about rehab for Jeff, and this later turned into the two sides being back on good terms for the first time in nearly two decades, and Jeff would be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2018.

The heart of the matter

Following his 2018 WWE Hall of Fame induction, Jeff Jarrett returned to WWE as the second entrant in the 2019 WWE Royal Rumble. And just 24 hours removed from that event, PWInsider has confirmed that Jeff Jarrett has signed a new contract with WWE.

According to PWInsider, Jeff Jarrett's new contract will see him work behind the scenes with talent, but may also be used on WWE TV also. Although it is currently unknown if Jarrett will be a recurring TV character or just occasional appearances on special events.

What's next?

Jeff Jarrett is currently backstage at WWE RAW in Phoenix, so is likely starting his backstage duties right away. We do not know when he may return to WWE TV, however.

It is also interesting to see where this leave Global Force Wrestling, as although they are not currently active for wrestling shows, they are still involved in other business ventures.

Jeff Jarrett joins WWE as a producer along with Shane Helms and TNA Impact originals Abyss and Sonjay Dutt.
