What's the story?

As LAX lost their Tag Team Titles on Friday to the North (Josh Alexander and Ethan Page), speculation was that the multi-time tag champs were done with Impact Wrestling.

That may be the case on the surface, but Mike Johnson of PWInsider.com reports that they are still under contract until August, thus they are not free to sign with another company yet. PW Insider carried a report (via Wrestletalk) on the matter.

In case you didn't know . . .

The current incarnation of LAX, Ortiz and Santana, has been one of the top teams in not only Impact Wrestling but also all over the world. Their feuds with the Lucha Brothers over the titles were among some of the best matches in Impact history.

The duo lost the titles to the North on Friday and participated in a three-team match at Slammiversary.

The heart of the matter

Throughout their time in Impact Wrestling, LAX have been in feuds with the Lucha Brothers, OVE, the original LAX (Hernandez and Homicide) and the Decay (Abyss and Crazzy Steve).

It was known that their deals were expiring this Summer and that both All Elite Wrestling and the WWE had an interest in the talented duo. Despite the fact that it appeared that the team was done with Impact, Mike John of PWInsider.com revealed that they are still contractually obligated to Impact until August.

“The duo remain under contract until August for the promotion and would be available for Impact for their TV tapings this month in Windsor if they are booked to be there.”

With another round of TV tapings set to take place this week, if Impact wanted or needed them to show up for storyline purposes, then Ortiz and Santana would be obligated to do so. They will still be free agents this Summer but will have to wait until next month in order to sign deals with any company.

What's next?

Unless they get a farewell match or storyline on TV, Slammiversary might have been LAX's last appearance in Impact if they do not sign new contracts.

While they will be free agents soon, they are not technically there yet. AEW and WWE will likely enter into a bidding war for their services, so LAX will ultimately be the winners.
