Survivor Series may have followed a predictable narrative without any major surprises or returns, but the reactions to the PPV have been generally positive.

The hits outnumbered the misses and that's a victory in WWE's book. However, the main event and the finish of the show left a lot to be desired.

Becky Lynch, Shayna Baszler and Bayley were part of an underwhelming main event that ended with the NXT Women's Champion as the winner. A dead crowd, a messy match and the lack of a big surprise after the bout hampered a solid show.

Dave Meltzer revealed the reasoning behind the decision to have the Women's triple threat go last at the PPV. He stated that the WWE officials are quite high on Shayna Baszler and intended on finishing the show by putting her over.

The company may have also believed that Becky Lynch possesses enough star power to carry a main event match. It was additionally stated that out of all the three-way matches that were booked for the PPV, the clash featuring the aforementioned women had the best build.

Here's what Meltzer said on the Wrestling Observer Radio:

"I think they felt that, number 1, I think they wanted to end the show with Shayna, I think Shayna is really high on their list of people they want to push as Stars. I feel they think they felt that Becky is the biggest star, so she could be going last. And I think that they just expected, from the build, of all the three-ways that certainly had the best build, that it would get the most reaction and it didn’t. I mean reasoning, I can see where they came up with the reason to put it last, but it didn’t work in that position unfortunately."

While Baszler managed to come out on top in the closing match of Survivor Series to get the win for Team NXT, Lynch would have the last laugh as she took out the Queen of Spades to end the PPV.

Ronda Rousey's return seemed like a given at one point, however, it didn't happen and the show went off the air without a much-needed swerve. In all honesty, Rousey returning after the match to confront The Man would have been the perfect finish.
