What’s the story?

According to Cageside Seats, WWE superstar Shinsuke Nakamura may soon find himself in the United States Championship picture. The King of Strong Style has been on the main roster for a few weeks now, ever since debuting on the SmackDown LIVE after WrestleMania 33.

In case you didn’t know...

Nakamura has been tipped for greatness ever since his debut at NXT Takeover: Dallas, and it seems as if he’s on the path towards fulfilling expectations. The Japanese Superstar has had some top quality matches as of late, which is a trend that is expected to continue.

The heart of the matter

The report suggests that Nakamura will find himself in the US title picture “sooner rather than later”, which makes sense given how they’re starting him off in a midcard position. He will likely be taking on either Kevin Owens or AJ Styles for the belt, with many fans hoping that the company saves the Styles-Nakamura match for somewhere down the line – potentially WrestleMania.

What’s next?

Shinsuke is set to go one on one with Dolph Ziggler at WWE Backlash, with the two being engaged in a rivalry ever since Nakamura’s debut on the main roster. They’ve already wrestled one another in a dark match, but their upcoming bout will likely be an improvement on that, with both men looking to prove a point when it comes to their stock in the company.

Author’s take

Nakamura in the US Title picture makes sense – if it’s against Owens, that is. We’d like to see him be protected for as long as possible but at the same time, the Prizefighter holding onto the belt for a while could do wonders for its prestige. When it comes to the potential AJ clash, we’d prefer to see that be saved for New Orleans.
