What's the story?

Over the last few weeks, there have several rumours about WWE Superstars asking to be released from their contracts to supposedly join other promotions, one notable among them being AEW.

One Superstar who has been linked with a move away from WWE is 6-time Intercontinental champion, Dolph Ziggler. Here's an interesting update about The Showoff's WWE future.

In case you didn't know...

Ziggler was last seen in the WWE in December 2018, when he faced former tag team partner Drew McIntyre in a steel cage match. The former WWE Champion joined WWE in 2004 and has been a part of the company for 15 years, winning several titles and becoming a trusted Superstar with the WWE creative team.

Ziggler isn't the only Superstar whose future is up in the air. This past week, there were reports that The Revival - the tag team of Dash Wilder and Scott Dawson, had asked for their release from the company, to perhaps join AEW.

There have also been reports that Maria and Mike Kanellis asking to be released from their contracts, but Maria squashed those rumours recently.

The heart of the matter

Recent reports stated that Ziggler had turned down a contract to become a producer in the WWE, and he hasn't been featured in live shows over the past few weeks.

PWInsider is reporting that he is still signed to a contract with the WWE, but that may end on 31st January 2019. Some sources have reported that he may not quite WWE after all.

Ziggler is set to go on a comedy tour and has changed his Twitter name to Nic Nemeth for his comedy tour.

What's next?

It remains to be seen what the future is for Ziggler, and if he may feature in the Royal Rumble, which could be his very last match in the WWE.
