WWE Rumors: The reason why Braun Strowman destroyed Roman Reigns

These two men aren’t done with each other

What’s the story?

On a recent edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer said that the angle where Braun Strowman destroyed Roman Reigns was meant to protect the Big Dog.

In case you didn’t know...

Dave Meltzer is referring to Braun Strowman’s brutal assault of Roman Reigns. During a backstage segment, Strowman manhandled Reigns and slammed him into several metal objects. Monday Night Raw’s resident Monster then threw The Big Dog off a ledge while the latter was strapped to a stretcher.

In the aftermath of the beating, Roman Reigns was loaded into an ambulance. However, Braun Strowman wasn’t finished and tipped over the ambulance with Reigns still inside it.

On the most recent episode of Raw, Kurt Angle announced that Reigns would have the opportunity to exact revenge on Strowman in a match at WWE Payback.

The heart of the matter

As things stand, Braun Strowman is expected to defeat Roman Reigns at Payback and challenge Brock Lesnar for the Universal Championship in June or July. According to Meltzer, WWE will play up the story of Reigns returning prematurely from injury in order to protect him. The Big Dog is expected to heavily sell his injuries during his match at Payback.

Meltzer also said that Strowman would lose a rematch to Roman Reigns, following his title shot, presumably at SummerSlam.

Author’s take

As usual, Dave Meltzer’s words make all the sense in the world. Roman Reigns is WWE’s golden boy, and they will not book him to take a clean loss at this stage in his career. Braun Strowman’s work has been exemplary, and he deserves to have a match with Brock Lesnar.

Although Strowman won’t defeat The Beast Incarnate, the story of him chasing the Universal Championship won’t be short of box office appeal.
