WWE Rumors: Unfortunate backstage problem with the Brock Lesnar 'destroying' Rey Mysterio angle on RAW

This Monday night, we saw 'The Beast Incarnate' unceremoniously lay waste to Rey Mysterio and his son Dominic. It all started when Brock Lesnar made his way to the ring while Rey Mysterio was in the middle of a promo. Lesnar then proceeded to F-5 the former WWE Champion.

That wasn't all, as Lesnar then dragged Mysterio's son from the audience and took him on a trip to Suplex City. While the angle was sensational as intended, it did seem a bit random to many fans.

The reason behind the attack

According to the latest edition of WON, the angle was done to set up a possible feud between Brock Lesnar and Cain Velasquez. However, the angle may have run into a problem, as the deal with Velasquez has not been finalized.

Here is what the Observer stated:

The angle where Lesnar destroyed both Rey Mysterio and Dominick Gutierrez (Rey’s son) that opened Raw, combined with Paul Heyman’s late in the show promo saying that no wanna-be tough guys in wrestling or wanna-be tough guys in MMA could do anything about it was designed for a Lesnar vs. Velasquez match. However, we were told there have been snags in the negotiations, and also know Velasquez has talked with AEW.

WON also noted that WWE went ahead with the angle anyway, as they figured that they will steer it into another direction, if they fail to sign former UFC Fighter Cain Velasquez.

Velasquez has made a major name for himself not only in the world of MMA, but also pro-wrestling. Seeing 'The Beast' collide with another UFC Legend inside a WWE ring would be a dream match for many fans.

It remains to be seen what role Rey Mysterio will play in the coming weeks and if he will also be involved in a program with Brock Lesnar.
