From the WWE Rumor Mill: WWE and Ring of Honor are interested in signing Eddie Edwards

NXT bound?

NXT bound?

What’s the story?

According to The Wrestling Observer, Eddie Edwards could be on his way out if Impact Wrestling in February. Apparently, WWE is interested in signing up the former X-Division champion.

In case you did not know…

Eddie Edwards had appeared for WWE back in 2013 along with Davey Richards. He took part in the WWE tryout camp and made his debut in NXT in a tag team match.

Edwards was billed as John Cahill for the match and he ended up being on the losing side against The Ascension. Edwards then went on to sign with Impact Wrestling and had great success at the promotion.

The heart of the matter

The contract of Edwards with Impact Wrestling is apparently set to run out in February next year. Dave Meltzer noted that there is a high chance of Edwards leaving the promotion after this.

Meanwhile, WWE seems to be interested in signing him to NXT. They apparently passed on him the last time around as they had a negative impression about wrestlers from Ring of Honor. Speaking of Ring of Honor, the indie promotion is also interested in getting the signature of Edwards as per reports.

What’s next?

Edwards is the reigning GHC Heavyweight Champion in Pro Wrestling Noah. He has already made two title defences so far and a third one is reportedly in the making. As for his Impact Wrestling run, Edwards was not booked for the last two episodes.

Author’s take

Not signing Edwards back in 2013 was a big mistake from WWE. It’s still not too late to snatch him up and bringing him into NXT can be a good move.

Edwards has huge experience on his resume to show off and this would come in handy for the NXT booking team. Whether or not WWE would get the deal done is a debate for another day.
