WWE Rumours: Possible feud for John Cena upon return to television revealed

The Face That Runs the place has intentionally been kept off WWE television

At Summerslam, John Cena was defeated by AJ Styles clean and thus losing his feud. It came as a surprise because John Cena rarely ever loses his feuds, but this was evidently done to elevate AJ Styles for his big push going forward. People also thought that Cena would instantly be off television as he would be going to film the second season of American Grit.

However, this wasn’t fully true. The past month or so, Cena has been with WWE, either backstage or as part of their international tours. He hasn’t started filming for American Grit, not yet at least. He has been intentionally kept off television the past month and the reason for this is to rekindle his feud with AJ Styles down the road.

We have learned that Cena is advertised for next month’s Smackdown Live exclusive Pay-Per-View, No Mercy, which takes place October 9th. It is being said that he is likely to face Styles in the event. After No Mercy, Cena will then take a hiatus once more to start filming the second season of American Grit, which will keep him off television for the rest of the year.

This is going to be extremely interesting, as this means that Cena will only be appearing one more month for the rest of the year. If this is the case, and if he truly is facing AJ Styles, there are high chances that Cena gets his 16th World Title. Could WWE be so behind AJ Styles that they want him to go over Cena a third time? Perhaps a likely scenario would be Styles getting disqualified or winning dirty and attacking Cena, writing him off television for the next two months.

Cena is scheduled to appear on the Smackdown Live Event in Fairfax, VA on Monday and also Smackdown Live’ s Tuesday taping at Philadelphia. This makes it likely that the John Cena-AJ Styles feud could come back to life as early as Tuesday.

Another question if this feud picks up again is, what about Dean Ambrose’s rematch clause that he is entitled to? It looks like we’ll have to tune in to wait and see. When Cena returns in January, it is unlikely he will be in the world title feud as he is scheduled to face The Undertaker at Wrestlemania 33.

So it is highly possible that AJ Styles will be the heel champion walking into Wrestlemania 33, but that is still a long way ahead.
